The app
- MacScout has no account, no analytics and no tracking. It doesn’t send information about you, your Mac or your files to us or to anyone else.
- Your settings stay on your Mac, in
~/.macscout/config.jsoncand in the app’s preferences. - MacScout connects to the internet only when you ask it to: when you run a command that uses the network, like
git pullor one of your own actions, or when you open Claude, ChatGPT or Perplexity from the AI menu. Those services handle your data under their own privacy policies.
Purchases
Apple sells MacScout on the Mac App Store and handles the payment under Apple’s privacy policy. We don’t receive your name, email address or payment details. If you agreed to share them with developers, Apple gives us anonymous statistics, such as the number of downloads, and crash reports.
This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or tracking. To deliver the pages, our server processes technical data such as your IP address, the page you ask for and your browser’s name. It doesn’t keep a log of visits. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the website securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
When you write to support@macscout.app or another macscout.app address, Namecheap forwards the message to our mailbox at Google Workspace. We use your address and your message only to answer you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR when your message is about a purchase or using MacScout, and otherwise our legitimate interest in answering questions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete messages once we no longer need them, unless tax or commercial law requires us to keep them.
Processors
These companies process data for us under data processing agreements. For transfers outside the EU, the agreements include the EU standard contractual clauses (SCC).

Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You can also complain to a supervisory authority, for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, which is responsible for us.
